Assessment of student progress in CBL happens largely through workplace-based assessments (“WBAs”) that help to inform the student’s overall progress toward the core competencies of our program. Knowledge of the conditions that CBL “patients” present with is also assessed through multiple choice questions on exams. When a student misses a CBL session, a makeup assignment must be completed to demonstrate understanding of the missed content.

Workplace-based assessments (WBAs)

WBAs are completed by facilitators multiple times per term.

During the first year, students are paired with the same facilitator for the entire term. Facilitators will meet with students prior to the first and second WBAs to discuss how CBL is going for that student, and the student’s individual goals.

The final WBA of the term is a summative form, and no meeting is required at the time of this WBA.

During the second year, students are paired with facilitators for six weeks to more accurately represent the changing clinical teams that students will engage with in the LIC.

In each six week period, facilitators will meet with students prior to the first WBA for a formative verbal feedback session. Then, at the end of their six weeks together, facilitators will provide written feedback at the summative WBA.

Meetings are not required at other times during the term unless:
