You said, and we did! Past students provided us with feedback that we need to update our resources for the Congenital Heart Disease portion of the Cardiovascular Unit, and after many hours of labor, we are pleased to present you with the CHD Shorts video series.

This series will take the student through the foundational elements of understanding Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), including the spectrum of pathology in CHD, some broad categories which will aid the student in understanding different presentations of CHD, and understanding the basic pathophysiology of these different categories. Additional video shorts will spotlight genetic diseases, syndromes, and the importance of teratogenicity, while still others will spotlight specific congenital heart diseases. While this video series is by no means exhaustive, we hope that it will provide everything the student needs to prepare for in-class sessions and for their internal and external examinations.

The suggested best use of this video series for students in their cardiovascular pre-clerkship curriculum is to ideally view at least the first three videos in the series prior to class (see E.Flo MD for details), then attend class to provide context and to cement the concepts. Students will also find it well worth their time to view the following CHD Shorts prior to class:

The videos that remain may be viewed as the student’s schedule permits. Also, if you find it useful to do so, please feel free to adjust the playback speed to suit your needs.

Upon completion of this series, supplemented by in-class activities, the student will have a solid platform on which to launch practice of their clinical skills in clerkship in patients with suspected or known congenital heart disease. For other students at any stage of the M.D. program, please come back and visit to review any of these videos any time it may be useful! We hope you enjoy these materials!

Chris,

I’d love to break these down into categories like we did for ECG Shorts—these are the ones that I gleaned from the parts of the videos that I watched, but I’m certain I didn’t do all of them correctly!
